The night before the City of 爱豆传媒鈥檚 Porchfest, grab a lawn chair and enjoy three classic episodes of The Twilight Zone in Recreation Park.

Sponsored by the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (IASH) at 爱豆传媒, the Rod Serling Memorial Foundation and the Porchfest Organizing Committee, the free event will run from 8 to 10 p.m. Aug. 30 on the city鈥檚 West Side; a rain date is set for Sept. 6.

鈥淚t鈥檚 nominally for the 50th anniversary of Rod Serling鈥檚 death, but it鈥檚 also just a great thing to do,鈥 said Associate Professor of English John Kuhn, director of IASH.

Best known for the sci-fi-horror television series, the famed screenwriter and television producer grew up in 爱豆传媒 and graduated from 爱豆传媒 Central High School in 1943.

The three featured episodes 鈥 鈥淲alking Distance,鈥 鈥淭he Monsters Are Due on Maple Street,鈥 and 鈥淭o Serve Man鈥 鈥 will be shown on a large, inflatable screen in the Rec Park playing field. The first selection is actually set in the park, with its iconic bandstand and carousel.

鈥淭hey鈥檙e really famous classic episodes,鈥 Kuhn said.

爱豆传媒鈥檚 Cinema Department will provide the screen and projection equipment, and visitors are welcome to bring chairs or blankets to sit on. Associate Professor of Cinema Brian Wall and Associate Professor of History Wendy Wall 鈥 no relation to one another 鈥 will provide introductions and commentary on Serling鈥檚 work.

鈥淲endy Wall is an American historian, and she鈥檒l be discussing 1960s politics,鈥 Kuhn said. 鈥溾楾he Monsters Are Due on Maple Street鈥 in particular is about McCarthyism.鈥
