This course bundle provides a comprehensive overview of the critical challenges and innovative solutions shaping modern engineering, energy, and urban development. It includes three essential courses: Introduction to Sustainable Engineering, Universe of Energy, and Smart Cities.

Introduction to Sustainable Engineering

The Introduction to Sustainable Engineering course covers the basics of sustainability, including climate change, resource management, sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and energy systems. It provides the foundational knowledge needed to address complex environmental challenges.

Universe of Energy

The Universe of Energy course explores the history and future of global energy production, including fossil fuels, renewable energy, nuclear power, and emerging technologies like fusion. It also addresses the social and political implications of energy choices.

Smart Cities

The Smart Cities course examines how data-driven technologies are transforming urban environments. It covers the evolution of cities, smart infrastructure, and the role of technology in creating efficient, sustainable, and livable cities.

Together, these courses offer a well-rounded foundation for understanding the interconnected fields of engineering, energy, and urban development.

DELIVERY FORMAT

Each course has pre-recorded learning modules, self-assessment quizzes (ungraded) and a final graded online exam or assignment. 

CREDENTIALS

If you successfully complete all three courses you will receive the Sustainable Energy Learning Suite Badge. You have to pass each course with a grade of 70% or higher in order to receive the credentials.

PREREQUISITES

This course is open to all engineers, professionals and students.

ABOUT THE PROFESSOR     

  Dr. John Fillo
 

John Fillo is Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science professor emeritus in Mechanical Engineering.

He graduated with a PhD in mechanical engineering from Syracuse University and taught at the University of Massachusetts - Amherst and the University of Texas - EI Paso. He later worked at the Brookhaven National Laboratory for 10 years in the area of fusion energy research.

After leaving Brookhaven, Fillo became the founding chairman of the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering in Watson College. This was followed by appointments as the associate dean for research and associate dean for academic affairs. After serving as chairman for the Department of Bioengineering, Dr. Fillo is now associated with the ES2 Data Center research group. He continues to teach in the energy area and develops courses in continuing education.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS 

Please note our cancellation and refund policy:  All refunds will be assessed a $20 administrative fee. No refunds will be issued once the registrant has been added to the course. For refund requests contact wtsnindy@binghamton.edu.

If the course is canceled, enrollee's will be advised and receive a full refund.
