Applying to SOPPS

Regardless of class year, Scholars in good standing, who apply before January 15th and meet the pre-requisites for entry with a C- or better, are guaranteed admission into the Pharmaceutical Sciences PharmD program. Scholars interested in the MS or PhD programs, should see further information below.

Scenario 1: PharmD Students Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree

Scholars choosing this scenario will remain under the supervision of the °®¶¹´«Ã½ University Scholars Program until they have been awarded their bachelor's degree.  These students, often referred to as SOPPS 3+4 students, will typically receive a bachelor's degree at the end of their first (P1) year (of the 7 required for the PharmD).  In order to graduate with honors, all Scholars Program requirements must be completed by the time the bachelor's degree is awarded and many of those requirements can be achieved through coursework required by SOPPS.

PHRM 510 and any of the other Scholars III options may be used to satisfy the Scholars III requirement.  All relevant applications must be submitted on the Scholars B-Engaged page.

PHRM 562 and any of the other Scholars IV options may be used to satisfy the Scholars IV requirement.  All relevant applications must be submitted on the Scholars B-Engaged page.

Failure to submit these applications will result in the student graduating without honors.  Honors transcript notations will appear after the degree is conferred.

In this scenario, Scholars wishing to access their Scholars $3500 award in support of a qualifying activity must apply to use the award before they finish their bachelor's degree.

Scenario 2: PharmD Students NOT Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree

In this scenario a °®¶¹´«Ã½ Scholar student will transition to become  a Pharmacy Scholar on the first day of the P1 year.  Scholars intending to graduate with honors must complete all SCHL 1 and 2 requirements prior to matriculation into SOPPS.  Equivalent SCHL 3 and 4 requirements are satisfied by the completion of PHRM 510 and PHRM 595, respectively. The Scholars minor will be omitted from the transcript upon matriculation into SOPPS as per university rules that graduate students may not pursue undergraduate degrees. Scholars requirements will no longer appear in Degree Works but instead will be tracked by the SOPPS Office of Academic Affairs.

Students will transfer into the Pharmacy Scholars program on the first day of the P1 year. The criteria for the distinction of honors remains the same as in the °®¶¹´«Ã½ University Scholars Program. At the completion of the P4 year, the SOPPS Office of Academic Affairs will ensure the honors notation is added to the transcript and included in the commencement program for students that meet the criteria for the honors distinction. Scholars who have not previously accessed their $3500 award as undergraduates may do so as Pharmacy Scholars. Qualifying Pharmacy Scholars can access the $3500 award anytime between the beginning of the first (P1) and end of the fourth (P4) professional years. The award funds will be administered by the SOPPS Office of Student Affairs.

The PharmD degree is usually awarded at end of P4, (Pharmacy Year 4), and relevant honors transcript notations will appear after the degree is conferred.
